Short Biography:

Ir. Dr. Yew Ming Chian is a prominent researcher and academic in the field of engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Materials Engineering, a Master of Engineering Science, and a Ph.D. in Structural Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Malaya (UM). With prior experience in the building and oil & gas industries, Dr. Yew is currently affiliated with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) under the Institute of Sustainable & Resources (ISER) - Centre for Corrosion Research (CCR). His career has been marked by notable research contributions and a strong commitment to advancing engineering knowledge and practice.

Dr. Yew's core research expertise lies in Intumescent Fire Protective Coatings and Advanced Fire Protection Materials, with a particular emphasis on compliance with BS-EN standards. As one of Malaysia's pioneers in this field, his work also extends to Cool Roofing Technology Systems, Fire Protection Composite Materials, Flame-Retardant Polymers, Renewable Energy, Construction and Building Materials, Sustainable Materials, and Advanced Materials Technology. He has received numerous international accolades and, over the past nine years, has secured 16 research grants and 11 intellectual property rights. In recognition of his innovations, he was awarded the Most Innovative Excellent Award in 2020.

Dr. Yew is actively engaged in the academic and research community. He has published over 100 technical papers, with more than 50 appearing in high-impact Q1 and Q2 journals, and has authored four invited books and three book chapters. He serves as Lead Guest Editor for Frontiers in Built Environment, Guest Editor for Coatings, and is on the Editorial Board of Current Materials Science. As a frequent keynote and guest speaker at local and international conferences, he also collaborates with various industries on consultancy projects. His research outcomes, grounded in patented innovations and industry partnerships, continue to position him as a leader in his field.

Professionally, Dr. Yew holds several esteemed qualifications. He is a Professional Engineer (Ir.) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council UK, and a Professional Technologist (Ts.) with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). He is also a Member of The Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) (MIFireE), a Council Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) Malaysia Branch (2023-2025), a Committee Member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) - Material Engineering Technical Division (MaTD) (2024-2025), and a Member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (USA).
