Short Biography:
Ts. Dr. Zulkifli Merican Aljunid Merican received his Bachelor of Heterogeneous Chemistry (Hons) from the University of New England (UNE), New South Wales, Australia in 1998 and a PhD in Supramolecular Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the same university (2005) under the guidance of the leading expert Professor Dr. Maxwell Gunter. He has also received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Merit in the recent year (2021). After completing various post-doctoral and advanced studies in Australia and the Middle East, he has later appointed as a senior lecturer in the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Tronoh, Perak, Malaysia. He has received a few outstanding awards, namely, the University of New England KG Lewis Award for the top Organic Chemistry performance (1997), the Australian Research Council (ARC)-funded graduate scholarship (1998), the University of Queensland New Employee Start-up Research Fund (2007). Dr Merican has also been funded by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) Award (2008-2009) as an Experimental Scientist to travel and conduct experiments using a neutron scattering technology at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) (2009). Dr. Merican's research interests and initiatives include the design and studies of potential materials such as heterogeneous catalysts, polymer nanocomposites, and nanoparticles for bioassays, carbon dioxide utilization, desulfurization, and the production of sustainable future fuel. He is currently the lead researcher on many YUTP- and government-funded projects, as well as a chemistry instructor at the UTP Department of Fundamental and Applied Sciences.
