Short Biography:

Ir. Dr.-Ing. Mohamad Rizza bin Othman is an Associate Professor at Chem. Eng. Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He earned his Bachelor and Masters degree in Chem. Eng. from UTM and holds Dr.-Ing. from TU Berlin, Germany. His research area focuses on Process Systems Engineering (PSE) namely on advanced process modelling & simulation, intensified process design, tecno-economic and sustainability assessment, process control and artificial intelligence.

His simulation experience covers biodiesel production, hydrogen production, carbon capture systems, dividing wall columns, clinical waste incineration and air pollution control, biogas purification and oleochemical fractionation. He has authored over 28 papers and participated in more than 55 conferences and exhibitions. In 2024 he was awarded The JIPA Award for Best Invention in Design at ITEX. He has managed research grants and consulted projects with accumulated valued at more than RM 4 million. Notably, he recently completed a project on the development of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) System Integrated with Dry Anaerobic Digester using Organic Waste.

He had served in various managerial positions as Head for Process Systems Engineering and Safety Research Group, Deputy Dean of Research, Deputy Director for Strategic Planning, Control & Quality Unit and member of various committee at department and university level. In addition, he was appointed as Chair and organizing committee for several national and international conferences.

He is a CEng (UK), PEng (BEM), MIChemE, Certified Aspen Plus User and Accredited HRDC Trainer. He is the founder of Smart Integration Systems in Process Industries (SISPI), a competence center under MOHE. Currently at UTP, he spearheads and oversees the UTP-AspenTech collaboration.
